The Office of English Language and Global Training offers English as a Second Language (ESL) preparation; short-term programs, as well as workshops focusing on language and culture. The OELGT is an important and integral part of Gannon University. Students and participants in the OELGT programs are beneficiaries of all the resources available to Gannon University’s students. 

5 start dates per year

    • August, October, January, March, and May
    • 6 levels of instructions
    • 1 level can be completed in 9 weeks
    • 25 hours of instruction per week
    • Four courses/skills:
      • Reading, Writing, Grammar, Listening and Speaking
    • Tuition per session- $2900

ESL Summer Short Term Programs

3D Summer Camp Experience

This 3-week American culture program – Dream Discover Decide – will help you determine if a U.S. college education is right for you and where your passion lies. It is a short-term program that does more than teach English, it allows students to explore what university in the United States is like while learning the differences between college majors. You must have a high level of English language proficiency to attend this camp.

  • Learn: Criminal Justice, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Computer Science, Forensics, Robotics
  • Discover: Erie, Pennsylvania’s 4th largest city with its lake, beaches, shopping and more
  • Arrival and Orientation: July 21, 2019
  • 3 week intensive: July 22 – August 9, 2019
  • Departure: August 10, 2019

TOEFL Preparation Program

You will practice TOEFL-specific skills utilizing real TOEFL materials. You will learn how to achieve a high score on the TOEFL test, through the instructor’s use of TOEFL practice tests and practice questions that focus on the TOEFL reading, writing, speaking, and listening sections. Our instructors also teach essential test-taking strategies that include time-management and question management. Instructors provide individualized help during class on needed areas of improvement based on your English skills, and practice test scores on each section. You must have a high-intermediate to advanced level of English language proficiency to attend this program.

English Language and American Culture Program

Enroll in this exciting, 3-week program to improve your English and learn about American culture. Spend the mornings building your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, while learning about culture. In the afternoons, take trips to explore historic and cultural sites in Erie, PA and its surrounding region. You must have a basic level of English language proficiency to attend this program.

  • Travel:  Tentative locations include Niagara Falls and Washington D.C.
  • Arrival and Orientation: July 21, 2019

Program Cost

Basic Program for $3,000 includes:

  • Transportation between Campus and the Erie International Airport
  • English Language Classes (5.5 hours per day, 5 days per week)
  • On-Campus Accommodation
  • 3 Meals per Day + Refreshments
  • Daily activities in the Erie community and beyond (transportation included)
  • Weekend trip to Niagara Falls (includes transportation, lodging, meals, and entrance fees to exhibits)
  • Weekend trip to Washington D.C. (includes transportation, lodging, meals, and entrance fees to exhibits)

In addition to the Basic Program, participants will have the option to participate in one of the following tracks:

  • Microsoft Office Introduction and Seminar
  • Soccer Training Camp
  • Volleyball Training Camp
  • Swimming Training Camp

Training Workshops

The language and culture workshops are offered in support of both Gannon students and staff, in order to advance their cross-cultural competencies in academic and professional fields.
